Vivid Morsels

In early April 2005 I was brought on board to production design a script by Neil McCay, Peter Dowty, and David Groves. The film we're creating is entitled "11", and is about parallels, fate, and the worst movie ever made. Here are my production notes and scenes from behind the scenes. -Alessandra Nicole

08/16: Bloody Nose

This is our Director of Photography and resident mastermind Peter "Zeke" Dowty.

We are matching the bathrooms at George Mason University to the historic 20's era theater in Fredrick, Maryland (The Weinberg Center). This scene is during the premiere of "Lucifer Cicero", the movie within the film, that the entire town in "11" is attending. Shelly escapes to the bathroom in the middle of the premiere to tend to her suddenly bleeding nose, and Angela Lynch, her co-star in "Lucifer Cicero" comes after her, not knowing fully what's going on with Shelly being terminally ill.

We all congregated on the third floor of the Johnson Center at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA late one night last month to shoot.

This is our crew, holding, until it's showtime.

Ze bathroom...

Director McCay doing his thang with Taylor and Mary. Mm Hmm.

Pete's crew rigged lights into the drop ceiling tiles of the bathroom to enhance the existing light.

Prettymuch the extent of my production designing this scene was having Evelynne hang up a 'Lucifer Cicero' poster in the bathroom. This evening I would be more of a makeup artist in dollying up Shelly for her 'movie premiere' and giving her a bloody nose.

With the bathroom being such cramped quarters, most of us had to sit right outside the door and watch the action on the monitor.

There's Justin, part of Jessi, our still photographer Jason, and producer Dave, sitting around, watching that monitor...

Our AD never gets sleep...unless it's on set of course :-p
