Vivid Morsels

In early April 2005 I was brought on board to production design a script by Neil McCay, Peter Dowty, and David Groves. The film we're creating is entitled "11", and is about parallels, fate, and the worst movie ever made. Here are my production notes and scenes from behind the scenes. -Alessandra Nicole

Taylor as Shelly with Taylor's mom and stepdad as Shelly's mom and stepdad...

We shot a few scenes at our lead actor's (Taylor Coffman) parents' home in Virginia, which was conveniant on many levels. Her mom and stepdad in real life got to play her mom and stepdad in our film. And, in the film, it just so happens that she has a much nicer home than that of the town's mayor...lucky gal....

Here are Corey and my marvelous assistant Evelynne sitting at the table as we waited (for three hours) for our producer and director to show up.

Taylor's mother is into fake food. The centerpiece on the table is all plastic and plaster of paris. She also had ceramic pasta and pastries in the house, it was really cool!

Here's Taylor...we're waiting...

That's Corey, and we finally have things to set up for the shoot!

First we shot an exterior of the main character Shelly arriving at her parents' home.

We used our producer's car as Shelly's car.

Producers should never be allowed to use a camera.

There's me putting my production design two cents in...

Here, we switched to the interior, Shelly having dinner with Mom and Stepdad.

Photographic proof that Dave was at the helm of this one, in case anything goes awry in post production...

In the center of the dinner table I placed Irises, the flower I chose for Shelly's character because she is marked for death, though nobody knows it in the scene. Irises are named for the goddess responsible for ferrying women's souls across the river when they die. It is foreshadowing that her mother, actually, will be involved in a car accident and will be facing death, though she is just in a coma throughout the rest of the film. Also, there are a couple of candles in the foreground ....11!
