Vivid Morsels

In early April 2005 I was brought on board to production design a script by Neil McCay, Peter Dowty, and David Groves. The film we're creating is entitled "11", and is about parallels, fate, and the worst movie ever made. Here are my production notes and scenes from behind the scenes. -Alessandra Nicole

Jim Green Campaign Banner

Jim Green, our schmarmy town mayor, making 7 Up Yours.

This is the campaign banner I slapped together for our upcoming campaign rally shoot, October 15-16th, in Fredricksburg, VA. Yeah, it's terrible. I think we're going to reschedule this shoot, anyway.

03/06: Luckily this shoot has been rescheduled to allow for better planning. I sent this awful design down to a good friend in Savannah who worked at the print shop there. He turned it into a much better campaign banner and overnighted it back up to me. I am gracious to Nick Pellela of Savannah, GA!

08/27: 6th Grade Classroom

In this scene, Ian goes nuts and breaks into the town's mayor's house and changes the livingroom around to reflect a 6th grade science classroom. Jim Green was once a school teacher, and had Ian in his class, and was a bad man, a very bad man. Now he's the mayor, and he's running for congress. Here's what I initially had to work with:

Here's what Evelynne and I spent a whole day doing to it:

Evelynne's solar system. I could not have gotten through this PD day without her!

*muahahaha*

That one was taken by Jessica Hutsko.

08/26: The Weinburg Center: Part Three: The Stunt

We had to cover our Jib up so it wouldn't get wet in the rain. :-(

Ok, forget about it, the rain stopped again.

There's the stunt car. We had a three camera set-up, one in-car, one there on the street, and Pete operated one facing the front of the theater from across the street.

Karen and I fix a blonde wig to her hair to make her look as much as our lead as possible. The scene is only a fleeting blur of motion, so this will look just great.

We all wanted to watch the stunt, but we couldn't be in view of any of the cameras. Many hid out in Jessi's van for a front row seat to the scene.

We're marking the cues here.

Karen has to throw herself onto the hood of the car. She's got a lot of padding under there.

Like that.

Director Neil surveys the damage to the hood of the car.

Everything looks good. We're ok to go again, this time, a little higher up on the hood, please Karen.

Here goes!

CRACK! We got the windshield this time!

On to the next phase of the stunt. The body flies over the top of the car!!

Ned gets the safety mats into place.

Do NOT try this at home, kids.

Now comes the part where she has to roll down to the back of the car.

Again.

And again.

Now it was time for our final scenes this shoot. We brought in the Jib to handle the camera. It must have been about 3 in the morning at this point.

A remote to control the camera up on the Jib.

You can see on the monitor, this is a reaction shot. Percy Groot, you silly sally, what have you done?

Steady Cam Dan.

Producer Dave.

This scene was really very creepy.

Emory and Dave some more.

You can tell in the monitor that it is 4AM now.

You're a bad man, Percy Groot.

This is what a Producer does. Writes the checks.

Your mom AND your dad made the list.

It's 6AM and the location is wrapped. Time to take down all evidence of " | | ".
